Andrew is home and doing MUCH better!

Andrew was released from the hospital last Thursday. Certainly a transition, but he handled it like a trooper. He is now at home and recovering. He is doing much better and I'm sure is looking forward to getting full use of his body again, but he is handling it all like a man. Kudos to mom and Hayley for being such great caretakers! Please keep Andrew in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Thank you to those who donated and especially those who visited, called, and sent cards. Andrew appreciates all of your well wishes.

The Surgery May 23rd

The surgery went very well on Saturday. It lasted approximately 4 hours and Andrew is doing much better. He is presently still in the hospital, but the road rash is beginning to look much better. He is still in quite a bit of pain which is to be expected, but he was able to walk a short distance and sit in a chair which is a step in the right direction. Andrew is very independent so this is very hard for him, but with his family, friends, and amazing girlfriend, I think he will be able to make it through this whole ordeal and come out just fine in the long run. Granted this has been a terrible experience, but I do believe that everything happens for a reason and I am very grateful that my brother is going to be ok. Please keep him in your prayers and remind those you love to ALWAYS wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Thank you all for your support.

Upcoming Surgery

Andrew is having surgery today. He went in approximately 2:30 and the surgery is expected to take 6 hours. They are putting a metal plate in his shoulder and a metal rod in his clavicle. Keep your fingers crossed that the surgery goes well.

The Accident

Andrew Fiscus is my little brother. Granted he is taller than me, probably weighs more than me and could probably bench press a grizzly bear, but to me, he'll always be my little brother. Recently, around 9 pm on Thursday, May 21st, Andrew was involved in a motorcycle accident. He and a couple of friends were riding on 49, and the road got the best of him. Thank god he was wearing his helmet because I believe it saved his life. He was taken to the hospital and unfortunately for Andrew, he has 2 broken collar bones, a broken shoulder blade, a broken arm, and very bad road rash. He's alive though, so that's most important. His surgeon told him that in all of his 15 years of experience, he has never seen injuries so severe, nor has he seen injuries to this extent without the patient also suffering a broken neck. We are all counting our blessings that Andrew is not worse off. However, Andrew presently cannot move either of his arms and will be laid up for approximately the next 6-12 months. During this time, he has decided to go back to school and for the time being, his interest is in (ironically) physical therapy. Everything happens for a reason and perhaps this was the kick in the butt that Andrew needed. We are all very happy that Andrew is going to be ok, but unfortunately Andrew does not have health insurance and has already depleted the insurance available through his vehicle. I know the economy sucks right now, but if you are able to donate even $1, every little bit will help. I hopefully will be able to set up a donation site in the near future, but in the meantime, if you would like to donate, please just message me. If you are unable to donate, all I ask is that you keep my brother in your prayers. If you have any questions as to his updated status, just let me know. I will likely be having a benefit for him in July, a cornhole tournament that anyone is welcome to attend. I will be sure to include updated information as it becomes available. Thank you so much!!
